Our sustainability strategy

As a family-owned company from the Emsland region, we feel a strong connection to our location and the people here. Here too, we take responsibility out of conviction – in our supply chain, for our employees, and for the society in which we are privileged to operate.

The Kampmann Group stands for innovative, sustainable solutions in heating, cooling, and ventilation technology. Our sustainability strategy focuses on moving away from fossil fuels through the use of renewable energy and thus on transforming the building sector. We rely on resource-efficient products and transparent environmental declarations.

To bring our own emissions to net zero by 2037, we are currently developing a sound action plan. Our social commitments include fair working conditions and strong inclusion of people with disabilities at our main site and in our supply chain. In this way, we are shaping future-viable corporate management that combines environmental and social responsibility with economic success.

Sustainability means ensuring a secure future for the company with satisfied, motivated employees and a forward-looking, fair business strategy. But of course it also means achieving climate targets.
Hendrik Kampmann, Managing Director, Kampmann GmbH & Co. KG

What do the artificial climate in indoor spaces and the natural climate of the world have to do with each other – and what does Kampmann have to do with both? Find out here.

Product & Value Chain

In the Product & Value Chain workstream, we focus intensively on industry-specific sustainability aspects as well as the environmental issues of our upstream and downstream supply chain. A particular priority for us is the decarbonized operation of buildings. Key to this is the consistent expansion of renewable energy for the sustainable operation of heat pumps as heat and cooling generators.

Transformation of the construction sector

With our systems for the heating transition, we contribute to the transformation of the construction sector. What used to be an oil or gas boiler is now a heat pump or another system that tempers system water with as little fossil energy as possible. In the room, one of our many products is used depending on requirements, suitable for these so-called low-temperature systems. This means that a large part of the heating system remains familiar to the installing trade.

Expertise for sustainable building

With Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), we want to promote expertise for sustainable building. EPDs make it possible to record and assess the environmental impacts of products in detail across their entire life cycle. This creates transparency and provides valuable foundations for customers to make environmentally conscious product choices.

Adaptation to climate change

Rising outdoor temperatures are increasingly creating the desire or necessity for building cooling as an adaptation to climate change. Whether in office or industrial workplaces, in supermarkets or in people’s own homes, as well as for the protection of vulnerable groups. The resulting increase in energy demand is a paradox and one of the challenges of our time. Efficient cooling systems that cool rooms based on chilled water play an important role. Here again, it is often the heat pump that provides this chilled water for Kampmann room units.

Infrastructure & Production

In the Infrastructure & Production workstream, we combine comprehensive measures to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency, and protect the environment at our sites. For this, continuous improvement of data quality for sound decision-making plays a central role.

Climate protection

With the project „Path to Net Zero“ we are in the midst of developing a comprehensive climate protection concept to achieve climate neutrality in our own activities (Scopes 1 and 2). But for us, defining a climate target is not a hasty commitment. We want to do it right. That is why we are taking the time to analyse, observe, and plan measures. We will publish our Path to Net Zero here.

Climate protection, resource flows and waste

With our certified environmental management system (EN ISO 14001 [certificate]), we demonstrate that environmental protection and sustainable action are an explicit part of our corporate policy. It covers numerous topics, for example in the areas of climate protection, resource flows, and waste. The system is based on internal interviews and external audits, through which environmental behaviour in our activities that needs improvement can be identified. If necessary, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of countermeasures follow.

Energy

Our energy management plays a central role in the sustainable and efficient use of resources. It allows us to examine the use of different energy sources and their contribution to the overall energy mix. The overarching strategy is, on the one hand, to reduce the share of fossil energy sources and, at the same time, to drive forward the expansion of renewable energy. The measures pursue a targeted reduction in CO₂ emissions in order to ensure a sustainable energy supply in the long term and protect the environment. Our energy management is certified according to EN ISO 50001 [certificate]).

Own Workforce

The Kampmann Group is a family-owned company. As such, employees are recognized as the foundation of entrepreneurial action and success. A fair, safe, and appreciative working environment forms the basis for sustainable growth and social responsibility. Without the commitment and dedication of motivated employees, long-term success is not possible.

81% identification with the company

Working condition

At 4.9%, the staff turnover rate is pleasingly low. The fact that many employees identify with the company is shown by an approval rating of 81% in corresponding surveys. The employees’ long-service anniversaries also demonstrate this success.

Knowledge management

The introduction of knowledge management is currently in preparation. The focus is on preserving isolated knowledge. It is of central importance for the Kampmann Group, as the knowledge and skills of employees make a significant contribution to maintaining competitiveness and the company’s success. Knowledge management can serve as guidance for new and younger employees and thus maintain process efficiency.

Working conditions

At the Lingen site, we have introduced occupational health management (OHM) and established a dedicated OHM team. There is active exchange with the other company sites about the experience of the OHM team. However, expanding the management system to other sites is also under review.

Business Conduct

We set high standards for our Business Conduct, in other words our corporate behaviour, in matters of law and responsibility. We manage our legally compliant conduct with a Compliance Management System. For us, responsibility means, on the one hand, exercising due diligence for good working conditions in our upstream supply chain and the inclusion of people with disabilities.

Labour rights in the supply chain

We have voluntarily committed ourselves to due diligence in our supply chain in order to ensure responsible upstream value creation. With our comprehensive management system, we implement strategic approaches and processes to safeguard labour rights and good working conditions. In this way, we already meet our customers’ requirements for a fair supply chain today.

  • Abstract risk analysis: Assessment of the country- and sector-specific risks of our suppliers
  • Concrete risk analysis: Suppliers’ self-assessments and, if necessary, individual measures

Inclusion

The inclusion of people with disabilities is a material topic for us. Together with several partners, we pursue different concepts. On the one hand, we are of course a direct employer of people with disabilities; on the other hand, we work with workshops for people with disabilities. These are suppliers in our supply chain. With Christophorus-Werk Lingen, however, we have developed a more far-reaching integrative concept. In this model, external employees with disabilities, who are supported by Christophorus-Werk, work at permanently established workstations at our main site.

Compliance

We want to act responsibly and in compliance with the law. Our Compliance Management System (CMS) plays a central role in this. It serves as a guide for us in an environment of increasingly diverse demands and more complex laws.
A central objective of the Kampmann Group’s CMS is comprehensive protection against legal and financial risks. Through the implementation of controls and training, we prevent regulatory offences that are committed, for example, out of ignorance.

Corporate culture

We are convinced that participation has a significant impact on the satisfaction of our employees and ensures our long-term success. In the shopfloor management of our production areas, for example, all employees are encouraged to continuously develop their own workplace. Valuable suggestions for improvement arise only from motivation.
